A lot has happened since my last posting and I’ll keep this brief.

I underwent a surgery earlier this year after playing half a season at Peg Leg Pete’s but unfortunately had to cancel the rest of the year. It was a long recovery. Thankfully I can stand and play again. Also on the medical front, I injured my right foot several months ago and let it go. So far it hasn’t healed so the doctor has me in a walking cast and I’m sitting down to play gigs. Oh well, at least I can play.

It’s the political season and it’s just a few days from the big 08 election. I’m not getting into how I feel about the candidates. I just feel that stupid uninformed people should go nowhere near a voting machine. Period. Just because you have the right to vote doesn’t mean you should.

Fortune’s Fool may undergo a name change shortly. I’ve researched online and although no one has trademarked the name, it’s taken for myspace, facebook and someone bought the .com domain although they didn’t build a webpage there. I’m building us a site and will link to it from my front page when I get it posted. Meanwhile, I am putting links to a few videos we shot at our last Abby’s gig. They’re grainy but we will get together and do some in the daytime so we get better picture quality.

I have a new email address for music related correspondence both solo and Fool. It’s music@stevelandress.com.

I know I promise but I really will try to keep this page updated more often. In the meantime, be good and don’t do anything I wouldn’t.

I just have to write about this. I recently bought a new PA system for my solo gigs. It's made by Bose and is without a doubt the most true sounding system I've ever heard. It is funny looking but sure sounds great. I went up to Juana's a few weeks ago to test it during the "satifaction guarantee" period and just fell in love with it. It's smaller and lighter than my old PA and I don't have all the extra wiring to set up each time I play. I can't wait for you all to hear it too.

By the way, if you are at my gig and don't think you see a PA, look again. It's the small tower in back of me that looks like a black post.

Oh, don't forget about the jam session at Abby's Pub on Saturday the 31st. It's gonna be fun. I'm bringing my Les Paul and am gonna rock out on some electric stuff. Abby's is just east of the Santa Rosa/Okaloosa County line on the north side of Highway 98. See ya there!

While updating my site I decided to rearrange the News page. I now have the most recent posts at the top and the older ramblings at the bottom. Enjoy.

What a great Christmas we had! All the rest and relaxation I've been getting has paid off in peace of mind. In a couple of days I'm going to be getting to work on my demo and will be shopping it around. Keep your eyes open as I get gigs I'll post them on the calendar and I'll put it in the Northwest Daily News.

The studio is almost ready for recording and my CD will be in the works as well as the demo. I'll keep you posted on the progress as well as putting some clips on the samples page.

Those of you who caught some of my late October shows at Juana's heard my original Christmas song. Who knows? It may wind up on the CD.

I want to thank those of you who stuck it out with me all season and were there for the last show of the year. We had a ball on that last day. I even pulled out all the stops and did some of the tricks I hadn't done in years; playing with my teeth and behind my head. Not easy with an ACOUSTIC guitar!!!

Again thanks for your support and look for me in the new year.

Happy New Year, y'all!

I was going to write something about why I hadn't updated my news page since May but I noticed the date today. Instead of writing about me I think we all should think about the nearly 3000 folks who went to work in New York 5 years ago at the World Trade Center never knowing it would be their last morning on earth. My heart goes out to those who died in the tower and the rescue workers who lost their lives trying to save them.

I was watching the news this morning and they showed the planes striking the towers and all over again I felt that familiar anger at the audacity of those who did this. They did this simply because we are Americans. To them we all deserve to die.

When I see those planes hit the towers I don't want to understand who did this. I don't care about their reasoning, although on an intellectual level I know why. All I want to do is make them pay. I didn't know any of those who died in the towers but they were part of my extended American family. I feel just as bad for them as I would my immediate family.

I hope that everyone takes some time today to think of those poor souls whose flame was extinguished on this day 5 years ago. I know I will be thinking of them all day today and for the rest of my life.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Never forget.

The season at Juana's is turning out to be a good one for us Sunday fans. The crowds have been good and have had a lot of enthusiasm. You gotta love that!

There's a new Sunday attraction at Juana's, Sand Buddy Sunday. Sand Buddies are the little paperweight like things at the bar that look like little goofy faces. If you would like to find out how to get one for your own, ask the bartenders B.W. or Marie. (by the way, they make great paperweights for my songlists that I pass around.)

Work on my "demo" album is on hold for a little while. I just moved from my place on the island to a bigger house on the mainland and my studio has yet to be reassembled. Once it is back together I'll continue work on the record. Hopefully I'll have some to sell by the end of the season. If you like the original material I've done rest assured they will be on the CD.

I've started performing the new covers I worked up over the winter and they are getting a good reaction. Last Sunday I debuted a song by Michael Stanley called "I Can Get This By Myself." Folks seemed to like it which makes me happy as it's one of my favorites. It's also a good one for me to get self-indulgent on the guitar...again! I call it my PG-13 song because it has an overt drug reference. It's a great lyric that really puts drug abuse in perspective. Come check it out next Sunday. I think y'all will like it.

That's my latest update. If anything new comes up, I'll let ya know.

Well, I redesigned the website somewhat. I got rid of the frames. They were a hassle.

The calendar has been updated to include my non-solo gigs at Juana's. I'll add dates to other venues as I get them.

You'll notice a couple of entries in March and April that say Framework 1.1. Since Jose is no longer a part of the group but Chris and I wanted the Framework fans to realize it was us playing, we decided to keep the name...somewhat. You know, like software updates are named Something 1.1 or Something 1.2, we are now Framework 1.1. The new update of the old group.

The new songs are coming along great. I've added some Stones, some Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan...it's gonna be a fun time. Naturally the new material will appear on the brochures I pass out.

Well, that's all for now. Check back for more updates. Til then, remember the guitarist's motto..."Tune it or die!!!"

I spoke with Jason from Juana's Pagodas last night and we got some gigs booked. I have exclusive Sundays for solo gigs this year. We also discussed a couple of gigs for Chris and me to do a duo early in the season, plus we booked Fortune's Fool for June, July and August. It's gonna be fun. Check the calendar for dates.

The cover songs are coming along great. I've had requests for Treetop Flyer in the past and now I'm finally learning it. What a great tune! It's definitely staying in my "preferred" list.

Good news! JDK my bass player is back from his trip and we can get started on cover material for the new band, "Fortune's Fool." With Chris on rhythm guitar and vocals and Rick on drums it looks like this bird's gonna fly and soon. Out first practice was great and we're gonna make a great band.

Working hard learning some new tunes for next year's season at Juana's Pagodas. In the works are new (to me anyway!) songs by the Doobie Brothers, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews and Frank Zappa. (I've had requests...really.)

Working hard on the new website with the new design. I hope you like it. email me suggestions.

Working on my demo CD. I have several songs written but the recording is slow going what with the day job plus the website and new cover songs. Oh well, it'll get done as soon as I can.
